Hello! I'm Steve Robinson, and I like old stuff. I like new stuff too, but I prefer vintage to modern. I'm a Britisher, now living in the USA with my wife and two cats. It was three cats for a while but that's another story.

CARPENTRY

Most of my working career has been in the construction industry. I actually started out in telecoms, working for 8 years as an engineer before taking voluntary redundancy and turning my carpentry hobby into a business. And so started a 30-year career of remodelling property. I've always liked making things, metal or wood, and it's very satisfying to complete a project and see a physical object at the end. Something that will last decades - if I've built it properly!

I'm semi-retired now. I no longer work long hours on a building site. Instead I spend my days reading, writing, and tinkering.

GOGGLES & STEAM

As I mentioned above, I like old stuff. The early 1800's to mid-1900's in particular. The Industrial Revolution, Victorians, Art-Deco. Steam, iron, copper and brass. Proper machines where you could see working, moving parts. Inventions that changed the world. Great engineers like Brunel and Stephenson. Products that were lovingly hand-made by skilled craftsmen and women. Things that were a lot prettier and grander back then, and built to last.

BRASS INK

One of the most common and versatile materials used in the 1800's was brass. I like brass. It looks nice, especially when it has aged a bit so you get that antique look. And as I sometimes write stuff, it means I like pens too. So I started Brass Ink, combining two things I like.
